Desc :[53 sec. by: DC Independent Media Center]On March 12, the Stop Loss Congress project blocked Independence Ave on the house side of the Hill, blocked the Senate parking lot on that side of Congress, and protested inside the Senate galleries as well with Senators looking on.
Over a dozen arrests(looked like 16) at the Independence Ave blockade resulted after protesters held the intersection for about 40 Minutes. Ten more were arrested in the "Ghosts of War" protest in the Senate Galleries and an unknown further number at the Senate parking lot blockade.
The purpose of the blockades was an attempt to prevent members of Congress from leaving for vacation until they bring home all troops and contractors from Iraq-including those who have been involuntarily extended the way protesters tried to involuntarily extend Congress.
